Box shelves for storing orchestra scores

Sheet Music Shelves

In his previous home, the orchestra conductor had shelves created to hold his collection of hundreds of scores of sheet music. In 2023 when he and his partner moved to their present 1740 house, the ceilings were lower, and he asked me to resize the shelves to fit. I removed the top row on the three existing units and also built a fourth unit for the far wall.

The vertical dividers in the existing units were made of 3/16″ hardboard inserted into slots, which bent over time, causing the 4′ shelves to sag. I replaced them with 1/2″ plywood, routed to fit the 1/4″ slots.
